A figure hangs, vomiting a string of empty signifiers. These signifiers spell out theword “#Signifier,” itself a meaningless referent. The figure underneath swallows the flow of jumbles letters that penetrate its helpless image. This piece is both an act of feeding and of violation, a superficial disruption. The term #Signifier is used among psychoanalyst, cultural theorist and philosophers when referring to semiological analysis. While contradicting this play of signifiers exemplifies the postmodern flow of referents that are broken from their source of signified “reality.” The hashtag, itself a symbol of internet culture, is the ultimate signifer. It refers to everything and yet to nothing.
